Went for a quick lunchtime pint ...
... and inadvertently wandered into a wake. A split second after walking into the Kazbah, in Truro, I clocked that black ties were de rigeur. This was the wake for Vince Dillon, former Bolton Wanderer footballer and regular face in the city centre of a lunchtime - Kazbah was among his haunts, although he also regularly enjoyed to watching the world go by from the window of the Old Ale House. Good turn out from many circles of friends and, for the first time, Skinner's beer served on a new handpump in the Kazbah's recently converted extension (a former coffee shop which was next door and is now entered through a doorway from the main bar). Farewell, Vince.

Lighthouse shines
Robinson's 4% seasonal brew, Lighthouse, was beer of the weekend at the Star for me. A well- balanced session beer that is a good quaffer, allowing conversation to flow - like how jugs came to be known as a slang term for the female bosom. Don't ask. Also on good form was Organic Serpentine (4.5%), malty, but not so overpowering that some of the hop doesn't through. Too sweet for the cultured palate of regular blog correspondent Mr H, though. Between these two we'd sandwiched St Austell Dartmoor Best Bitter (3.9%), pleasant enough, but very old-style, pre-Roger Ryman (head brewer) beer.
